| MABL Cup | Canute 2, 41-67 Burnley |
| Report by Tom McEvoy | |
Burnley travelled to Warrington on Monday 29th to play Canute’s second team, with the contrast from the previous game being all too evident. Dave and Daz Bolt made all of Burnley ’s first quarter points to trail by one going into the second quarter. Burnley rookie, Hyland, got on the score sheet followed by Madej and Ashworth, with the home side weakening as Burnley ’s defense warmed up. Sinclair ended the half with a flurry of points for Burnley who led 29-21 at the half. Canute’s only effective scorer was Jones, who offered a flurry of his own points to start the third. After three minutes, Burnley were losing their lead and were scoreless. Madej came to the Burnley ’s rescue racking up the next 7 points including a three-pointer. This catalysed the Bolt brothers and Sinclair, who offered several points at the end of the third for Burnley to regain their lead 49-39. In the last, Cronin and McEvoy played some excellent help defence, notching up several offensive points between them. Much of the credit has to go to Burnley’s Kirk, whose physical match up with Bayton kept Canute to 2 points in the final quarter, with the final score 67-41 and another Burnley win. This leaves the team with 4 wins and 2 losses for the season with the next match at Blackpool on Tuesday 6th November. |
