A match in which Preston won each quarter but was turned dramatically Prestons’s way in the 3rd when they outscored Congleton by 7 points. The low scoring game was dominated by both defences with Preston’s Robinson making 14 mainly from turnover fast breaks, assisted by Tapooi 10. Preston’s Robinson kept them in the game in the first period scoring 10 of Prestons 1st Q 12 point total from fast breaks. Congleton played well but gave up too many turnovers in offence and too many rebounds defensively to win. It was only resolute defence in fact that kept them in the game. This was exemplified in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter when a total of 6 points was scored by Preston 2 field goals and 2 foul shots (another 10 foul shots attempted but not scored) with a field goal and 2 missed frees in reply. In fact during this period Congleton achieved a near 4 minute period of holding Preston scoreless. An entertaining game well officiated, played in an excellent spirit but very low scoring. |
