| 70 foot 3 pointer helps Bury to first win | Report by Peter Parker |
Bury’s first game of the new season would be a test of team chemistry and cohesion with new players and a new offence. It was Manchester Met University (MMU) who set the tempo and Bury struggled to reach second gear and the cutting MMU players easily found the basket. Allen Hall was finding the basket for Bury with tough shots but MMU kept on attacking and at the half Bury were down by one. Bury found some firepower with Mike Nichols hitting consecutive threes with new player Kieran Forsyth getting in on the action. However MMU countered and held off Bury with inside scores. Chris McCormick made some great assists and even found his inside scoring touch hitting a couple of fadeaways to help Bury gather some momentum. As time in the third was running out, Bury leading by four, Allen Hall launched a 70 foot shot which looked good all the way…banking in to give Bury a 7 point lead going into the fourth. A nine to nil run extended Bury’s lead with seven minutes remaining but MMU again found some fire power in reserve and again threatened with a ten to two run. Bury gathered themselves and moved the ball well and eventually pulled away for a 76 to 64 point win. Allen Hall and Mike Nichols led scorers with 36 and 16 points. A good start for Bury for whom the majority of the team will be playing National league Div 4 with the first game being 13th October at the Castle Leisure Centre, Bury at 7.30pm. |
