After a disappointing loss to Burnley on Friday Bury looked to gain some momentum hoping to make the playoffs after a lacklustre season.
Both teams ran a fast paced game but it was the visitors that looked hotter as Ste White and Mike Nichols hit the target for Bury. Penwortham ran a deep bench and rotated their players consistently in an attempt to tire Bury but Martin Tomlinson came off Bury's bench to play some quality defense of his own. Bury stayed focussed and with tough defense from Stu Jackson and a great spell by Ste Graham, Bury led by three at the half.
M. Poltorak for Penwortham was consistent with his long range shooting before Bury's defence helped slow him down, limiting the home side's options and a twelve to four push gave Bury a nine point lead going into the final quarter.
The teams traded baskets then Penwortham made a push of their own to pull within four with three minutes remaining but Bury hit the target from long range to stem the flow and Penwortham turned the game into a foul shooting competition. Bury managed enough points on the board to stay comfortable until Penwortham hit two long range bombs but Bury held on to win it at the foul line 75 to 83.
Ste White and Mike Nichols led scorers with 25 and 23 points respectively
