| Prem Division | Cardinal Langley 60-65 Burnley |
| The players square up to more than just the basket | Report by Coole Rino |
Burnley are currently unbeaten at home and are having the best season for years, with coach Thompson at the helm and an eight wins, three losses record. This puts them joint second in the league on 19 points. The recent win away against Cardinal Langley (in Rochdale) was a low-scoring game, but non-the-less exciting. Burnley ’s Cummins, Dave Bolt and Sinclair acquired all the first quarter points between them to lead 11-7 going into the second quarter. Then Burnley ’s Kirk, Robinson and McEvoy made an impact on the scoring with Crockford hitting a three-pointer. Disaster struck both teams as tempers boiled over; Cummins and the home side’s Urtone squared up to each other and both were immediately ejected from the game. They both face a one match ban. The score stood at 29-25, still in Burnley’s favour at the half. The game then became more physical, with both sides clamping down on defence and Dave Bolt took on most of Burnley’s scoring responsibility, but making valuable contributions were Cronin and Crockford, making another long range shot to leave the score 49-44, with Burnley still up but neither team able to make a break. In the final quarter, Burnley’s Madej made a vital offensive contribution, but McEvoy stepped up to hit most of the points as the home side stalled on free-throws to hand Burnley the win 65-60 in the final minutes, a valiant effort being made by both teams. Burnley ’s next game is Friday 18th Jan at the St Peter’s Centre 7-15 tip-off |
