2007/8 Season Match Reports Thursday 15th November 2007
Premier Division MMU 81-88 Stockport Atlas
  Report by Nikos Silikas

After a two game break from reports, partly because I was away, I return to game reports.

Following last week’s defeat at Bury, Stockport Atlas had another tough game in their hands. MMU had some fast guards that could run the game and score 3-pointer shots.
Stockport had to show character and resilience to overcome them. The game had a fast pace right from the start. Dave and Neil Siddall scored the 18 of the first 20 points for Stockport and at the end of first quarter Stockport was leading 27-17. This 10-point difference proved to be decisive and MMU never really recovered from that. At half-time Stockport was leading by 43-37.

In the third quarter Stockport had their best defensive display allowing MMU to score only 11 points to Stockport’s 20. The 15-point difference, 63-48, at the end of quarter almost put the game out of reach. The relaxed attitude in the fourth quarter, embodied in a display of spectacular passes and improbable shots by Stockport, and combined with fine 3-point shooting from MMU resulted in the final score of 88-81 for Stockport. In the end MMU scored 9 and Stockport 8 3-pointer shots.

Stockport, despite a relaxed defensive attitude, had another superb offensive game scoring 88 points and with five players in double figures. Dave Siddall led the scorers with 21 followed closely by Neil Siddall with 16. Mike Greenough had 11, including ¾ 3-pointer shots and Kostas Katsikaronis and ‘big daddy’ Siddall had 10 points each.

Overall, it was an enjoyable game!
