| Premier Division | Stockport 85-68 Burnley |
| Report by Nikos Silikas | |
This was a tough game contested by Burnley throughout. The first quarter was very fast and high scoring with Stockport leading 25-18. Burnley was very strong in fast breaks exposing Stockport’s defence. As expected the tempo was slowed in the second quarter and Stockport led again 16-10 which gave Stockport a 13 point lead for the first half. In the third quarter Stockport appeared more focussed playing an aggressive defence which disorganized Burnley and resulted in a number of steals. Burnley only managed 4 points in the first five minutes and coupled with some useful offensive boards and easy baskets for Stockport the score ended 25-12 for the quarter. By this point the game was effectively over. However, Burnley much to their credit, never gave up. They kept fighting all the way to the end and they outscored Stockport by 14-5 in the last two minutes of the game! The usual spread in scorers was once more observed. Dave Siddall led the scorers with 20 followed closely by Neil Siddall with 18. Tom Sutton and Kostas Katsikaronis were also in double figures with 14 and 13 respectively. |
