MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE
2007/8 Season Match Reports 25th February 2008
Prem Division Stockport 79-77 Bury
  Report by Nikos Silikas

This was one of the most entertaining games this year! Both teams should be congratulated for their approach to the game that resulted in a thrilling game. Despite the fact that there was a disqualifying foul for a Bury player, even that did not affect the sporting ambience of the game. There were no ill feelings and the two teams parted very amicably at the end of the game.

Bury came out very strong and dominated the first half. They scored 5 3-pointers and were leading by 42-30 at half time.

Stockport improved dramatically in the third quarter outscoring Bury by 25-16 and reducing the gap to 3 points by the end of the third quarter 58-55 for Bury. A superb fourth quarter followed where the lead changed 4 times between the teams. An early 5-0 run by Stockport gave a 2 point lead to Stockport. Bury replied with a 5-0 run of their own and they were leading again by 3. Stockport then had a 7-0 run to lead by 4 followed by 4-0 run by Bury to level the score at 67-67 with 5 minutes to go. It was then point-to-point and with 20 seconds to go Stockport was leading by 2 and Bury had just been awarded two free throws. Chris McCormack, their best player of the night, who scored 29 points missed unexpectedly the first one and the game did not go to over time..

Dave Siddal scored 19 points, Andy White had one more excellent game scoring 12 points as did Kostas Katsikaronis. Dave Lloyd scored 8 crucial points, including 2 3-pointers, all in the last quarter.
A very enjoyable game that keeps Stockport alive in the pursuit of the first place in the league!
