As one can see from the score line this was a hopelessly one-sided game right from the start. Stockport expertly used a mixture of defences that seemed to confuse Chorlton and eliminate any offensive threat from them.
Due to a few players and coaching staff missing from Stockport line-up (through injuries and other commitments) there was a role reversal in the Team. Mike Greenough acted as the Head coach and Nikos Silikas as a player.
The first quarter was defining for the game. Stockport scored 41 points in the quarter to Chorlton’s 16. In this highly productive quarter Stockport had 5 x 3 pointers, including 2 from 2 from Nikos and a spectacular one from Neil Siddall at the last second of the quarter. The second quarter was relatively the least eventful quarter of the game with Stockport leading 28-14 for the quarter and by a massive 69-30 at half-time.
Second half was a notably less productive quarter in scoring but the emphasis for the Stockport team was their defence. They managed to keep Chorlton to only 2 points in the third quarter and to only 8 points for the entire second half!
This was by far our best defensive performance during my spell as a Coach for Atlas (which was funny as I was not in charge).
In terms of scorers, we had five players in double figures. Strangely enough our usual top scorer, Dave Siddall did not contribute to the first 33 points that the team scored. However, he made amends scoring 17 by half-time and finishing the game with 40 points! Tom Sutton had another sterling performance contributing 18 points. The trio of Siddall’s featured heavily once again with Nigel and Neil scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Andy White did an excellent job at point with 11 points and lots of assists.
Chorlton have an experienced coach in Eric Changeat and committed willing players so I’m convinced that they will bounce back and start finding their way again in this division.
