MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE
2007/8 Season Match Reports Wednesday 9th April 2008
Prem Division Tropics 57-78 Burnley
  Report by Tom McEvoy

Burnley faced league leaders Tropics away at  Mosside, Manchester on Wednesday 9th April with only nine players. The first quarter scoring was dominated by Burnley's Hyland and Dave Bolt, who notched up 17 points between them to lead by three going into the second.

Madej made valuable baskets, as did Daz Bolt and Robinson and the Burnley defence was some of the best played all season; Cronin and Kirk were indispensable in that regard throughout the game and the score reflected the effort with Burnley leading 38-27 at the half.

McEvoy made a free throw in the ninth minute to put Burnley up 55-38, quickly followed by Madej, who made two long-range three-pointers to leave the score a healthy 61-45 with one quarter left.

Dave Bolt, Hyland and Daz Bolt were on relentless scoring form to capitalise on a huge lead which Tropics could not reel in. Despite Cronin and Kirk fouling out, the game was won by a knock out 78-57 and an excellent team effort on defence.

This win gives Burnley joint second place with one game left in the regular season: to be played on Friday 18th April at the St. Peter's Centre at 7:15pm.

A runner-up position is possible for the premier league, which coach Thompson would be more than happy with in his first year at the helm. The play-offs will commence in the first two weeks of May.
