MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Blackpool 74 Bury 70

Prem Div 2006/7 Season

Report by Peter Parker

Bury faced Blackpool which was their third game in 5 days and with 7 players the game should have been an up hill struggle.

It was the home side that came out firing, with 4 starters getting on the score sheet taking a 13 to 6 lead before Bury woke up and scored 8 staight and finished the quarter leading by 1.

In the second Bury began to fire all cylinders with Ste Graham hitting a couple of three's and Usman Babu scoring 6 consecutive points to extend the lead to 29 to 44 at the half.

Bury found the gaps and attacked the basket in the third and built upon the lead and extended it to 20 points midway through the third.  However Blackpool found the basket and looked at an 11 point deficit as something they could overcome.

Blackpool started the fourth strong hitting a couple of three's and their confidence soon began to show.  Bury began to look tired and struggled offensively.  With two minutes remaining Bury led by 4.  However A. Astrada attacked the basket for a bucket and one then hit a three.  Bury missed and Blackpool ran out the clock for a four point win, 74 to 70.

Bury can only hope that the leaders lose some games to have a chance of retaining their title.
Usman Babu and Rich Seddon led scorers with 25 and 11 points respectively.
