MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Bury 1 99 Blackpool 58

Prem Div 2006/7 Season

Report by Peter Parker

After two defeats, Bury were looking to get back on track, starting the game well, all starters made a scoring cotribution. A solid man to man defense held the visitors to eleven at the end of the quarter.

The second belonged to two players, Alan Hall and Tom Hope.  Between them they scored from all angles, penetrating the Blackpool defense and hustling for offensive rebounds.  Chris McCormick made some great assists and Blackpool could not shackle them as they exploded for all but two of the twenty quarter points to lead 53 to 32 at the half.

Blackpool seemed to regroup to start the third.  Veteran Nigal Yates grabbed offensive rebounds and had easy put backs and BUry failoed to score for a five minute spell.  However, the insertion of Seb Cain brought energy and a new vigour as he caught fire hitting from all over the place scoring ten of the next twelve points.   Bury held a 70 - 46 lead going into the final quarter.

Bury did not slack off and the defence ensured fast break points and easy baskets.  The play of the game came from a steal.  Seb streaked down the wing towards the basket with a defender trailing.  He drwe the defender in by attacking the basket and tossed the ball off the backboard.  Ste Graham came flying in with a thunderous dunk - appreciated by the Bury bench. The aim was to get 100 and leading 99 to 58 Ste was fouled just before time expired.  Usually a good foul shooter he had the chance to reach the elusive mark...He bricked them both!  However the win and the manner in which the team played was more than enough to ensure everyone was smiling.

Top scorers were Alan Hall and Chris Mccormick with 34 and 16 points respectively.
