With a new look Bury 2 side, could an upset be on the cards on the first game of the season? Bury 2 are bigger and stronger and in the first quarter both teams were even, Dave Kinglsey for Bury 2 at 6' 9" intimidating on defense and rebounding on offense was a factor as was new signing Lyndon Gillespie, scoring by slashing into the defense and hitting from outside. Alan Hall was the beneficiary of some good passes inside for Bury one as they kept the foot on the gas.

The second quarter saw much of the same with T. Taylor getting in on the action with a three and a two for Bury 2. Mike Nichols and Chris McCormick hit triples for Bury 1 and Bury took only a 2 point advantage at half time.

The momentum shifted when Ste Graham teamed up with Tom Hope for Bury 1, their athletisism and quickness led to fast break points which saw Bury 1 pull away. Alan Hall, cutting inside and scoring from impossible angles gave Bury 1 a lift and allowed only 11 points in the third, their dominance now beginning to show.

Down by fifteen going into the final quarter, Bury 2 jumped on the back of T Taylorwith two threes and a two. However Bury 1's running game was in full flow and Bury 2 failed to counter. Bury one looked to veteran Chris McCormick in the post and outisde taking advantage of a mis-match scoring 8 points all on free throws.

The final score of 89 to 55 reflected the game and showed yet again the Bury 1 will be tough to de-throne this season. If Bury 1 win the league again, it will be the first time in league history that a team has won 5 consecutive times.
