Moss Side Tropics 88 Bury 76 Premier Division, 2006/7 Season Report by Peter Parker |
Title Decider? |
In a game that could swing the title chase, Bury came to Moss Side confident and ready for a win. This confident was apparent in the first quarter, led by Alan Hall who had 12 in the quarter. Bury built on the lead and led by a comfortable twelve at the end of one. Bury kept on the gas and althought the insertion of Ste Gayle gave Moss Side some firepower, Bury still held an 8 point lead at the half. Moss side stepped up the defense and were determined on the boards, getting second chance shots and easy lay ups through the lazy Bury defense. Bury led by ten with 2 minutes to go but turned the ball over 4 consecutive times giving the home side some hope going into the final quarter only down by four. Bury were looking tired and scores by the Moss Side big men and drives from the guards gave the home side a slight edge. This physical contest had swung and Moss Side were becoming more confident as Bury failed to find any answers. A 17 - 5 run finished Bury off as Moss Side are now a strong contender for the league title. Alan Hall and Mike Nichols led Bury's scorers with 22 and 12 respectively. |
