26 is the Magic Number

As predicted, this was a much closer game than the Cup final.

In many respects a basketball game is a game of numbers. People look at the statistics for rebounds, assists etc. In this game the number was 26!

Our top scorer in the Cup final against Tropics was Dave Siddall with 26 points. Naturally, the game plan of the Tropics was to contain Dave. As a result he scored only 2 points in the first quarter. However, the strength of the team this year is the bench and I think our bench is by far the strongest in the league. So the rest of the team scored 26 points in the first quarter to lead by 28-22.

Strange as it may sound, Tropics never recovered from that. They won the second quarter by 1 point so at half-time Stockport was leading by 50-45.

In the second half defences were a lot tighter from both teams. Tropics won the third quarter by 1 point but in the fourth Stockport played its best defence of the game keeping Tropics to 13 against 16. There were some inspiring baskets by Dave Siddall in the second half who finished the game with 26 points again! Anthony Crow played some excellent defence on Yorik Williams and Noel Power was crucial in controlling the boards.

Having beaten Tropics three times this season, I believe that Stockport now have legitimate claims for the top spot!
