Oldham Spindles secure their first win of the season

After two disappointing losses to start the 2006/7 season, last years league runners up, Oldham Spindles, looked to get their first win of the season this past week at home to Blackpool .

After a strong start saw the visitors leading by seven points, the Spindles stepped up their efforts at the defensive end and finished the first quarter trailing by just one basket.

A steadily paced second quarter meant neither team was able to take control and even as Oldham scored six unanswered points to finish the half, it was still anyone's game.

The seven point half time lead was extended to 10 going into the final quarter after a pair of three-pointers from Oldham forward Lee Isherwood and eight straight points from guard Ian Sanderson.

Spindles, whose rebounding had been poor in the first three quarters, stepped it up on the boards in the fourth and converted them into fast break points at the offensive end to close out the game with a ten point victory.

Lee Isherwood finished with 21 for Oldham , followed by Ian Sanderson with 13 and John Lindsay with 11.
