MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Bury 135 Thornleigh 37

Cup Quarter Final, 2006/7 Season

Report by Peter Parker

Thornleigh may have wished their gym was available on Monday as they could only manage to turn out five players for the change of venue and date for the quarter final match up against Bury who turned out a full squad.

This gave Bury time to experiment with various offensive and defensive sets. However Thornleigh moved the ball well and made the defense work and move but struggled to make a serious threat.  At half time Bury led 55 to 16.

Starting a fast five for the third quarter, Bury extended their lead with easy fast break points and great denial defense.  However Thornleigh's big man found the basket with sweet inside moves cutting inside the zone defense, gaining some respect from Bury.

Bury kept their composure and played within their limits and ensured their place in the semi's with a 135 to 37 win. Thornleigh deserve to be proud as they never gave up and continued to play team ball.

Alan Hall and Usman Babu led all scorers with 27 and 24 points respectively.
