An exciting game at a fast pace. Penwortham proved to be a well-trained and tough team. They were playing aggressive full court man-to-man defence for most of the game and initially they were leading. At the end of the first quarter they led by 24-15 and by 2 points at half-time.

Stockport came back fighting with some spirited steals from Dave Siddall in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the experience of Atlas players like Antony Crow and Dave Lloyd sealed the victory for Atlas. Ironically, the score in the last quarter was the reverse of the first quarter, 24-15 for Stockport.
