MANCHESTER AREA BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Stockport Atlas 59 Tropics 38

Prem Div 2006/7 Season

By Nikos Silikas

Not the highest scoring game. Nonetheless, it was an exciting and entertaining game of basketball. Stockport led from the start of the game and never went behind.

The score reflects the intense defence from both teams and the low percentage shooting from free throw line; particularly for tropics who finished the game with 12/35 free throws. Stockport had 11/20.

Indicative of the low scoring game was that Tropics scored only 4 and 5 points in the first and last quarters respectively, while Stockport scored only 8 in the second quarter.

Although Stockport were in the driving seat for the whole game the resilience shown by the Tropics players and their ability to claim a lot of offensive rebounds kept them in the game. As a result at half time the score was 22-18 for Stockport!

Dave Siddall led the scoring for Stockport with 19 points (including 4 3-point shots) and Antony Crow followed with 11 points. Remarkably, even in such a low scoring game, 10 out of the 11 Stockport players contributed in the scoring showing what a well rounded team they are this year.
